Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone character John Dutton begins the fifth season, which debuted Sunday on the Paramount Network, by being sworn in as the governor of Montana…  though the actor himself has no political ambitions.

The 67-year-old actor was asked if he ever plans on running for office while promoting the show in a new interview with USA Today.

Not only did he reveal he has no intentions of running for office, he added how, ‘disappointed’ he is in today’s politicians.

‘No, I don’t think there’s any reason for me to run, though I wish the people that did run had a bigger vision and more of a morality about how they see the country evolving. I’m disappointed,’ Costner said.

The actor’s political support has crossed both major political parties, with the actor supporting 2020 presidential Democratic candidate Pete Buttigieg, and Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney.

‘Just because you lose doesn’t mean you’re done; it doesn’t mean you’re even wrong,” he says of his political support.

‘I was clear that (Cheney) probably wasn’t going to win her election. But I wanted to let her know, as a citizen, how much I appreciated her brave, clear-headed stance,’ he added.

He acknowledged that his various political stances brought criticism from Yellowstone fans, though he was not concerned.

‘I didn’t really care how the cookie crumbles, that people that liked me now don’t like me. That’s OK,’ Costner said.

As for his character John Dutton, Costner added he knows it would be tough on him to leave his beloved Yellowstone Ranch when he’s sworn into office.

‘I know how hard it’s going to be on him. His heart is at the ranch, not trying to find middle ground with people,’ Costner said.

‘That’s going to be problematic. He has a lane that he operates in that is not as expansive as some would want it to be. And he won’t change,’ Costner added.

Costner also revealed he was originally planning on just doing one season of Yellowstone, but he has no plans on leaving now.

‘I was only going to do one season, but I’ve done this many,’ Costner said.

‘I give everything I can to what I’m doing. But the moment I feel that it’s not right, I’m just going to step away,’ he clarified.
