A popular brand of dog food has been urgently recalled over fears it may contain plastic.
Food safety watchdogs issued an alert about two cans of Lily’s Kitchen’s, stocked exclusively at Pets At Home.
It is feared the products ‘may contain small pieces of plastic’.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA), which published the alert, said it makes them ‘unsafe for pets’ and ‘presents a potential choking hazard’.
The FSA issues food recalls, when customers are asked to return a product, when problems are spotted with food that means it should not be sold.
The FSA’s recall impacts Lily’s Kitchen’s Fishy Fish Pie 400g can, sold at Pets at Home as part of the Grain Free Wet Adult Dog Multipack 24x400g cans. The Chicken and Turkey Casserole 400g can, also stocked at Pets at Home, formed part of the Classic Wet Adult Multipack 24x400g cans. Both cans have a best before date of September 1, 2024
One recall is for the Fishy Fish Pie 400g can, sold as part of the Grain Free Wet Adult Dog Multipack 24x400g cans.
The other recall affects the Chicken and Turkey Casserole 400g can, sold as part of the Classic Wet Adult Multipack 24x400g cans.
Both cans have a best before date of September 1, 2024.
‘As a precaution if you have a multipack that contains any of the affected recipes, we ask you not to feed them to your pet and instead contact Lily’s Kitchen for a full refund – with or without a receipt,’ Lily’s Kitchen said.
‘They will arrange collection of the item from you.’
It is not known when the plastic may have entered the production line.
The recall only affects the cans sold as part of a multipack.
‘This does not affect 400g cans sold singly or as part of any other multipack’, Lily’s Kitchen noted.
It comes as the food safety watchdogs also stuck a ‘do not eat’ alert for one of Sainsbury’s own-brand cheeses earlier in the day, over fears it could contain salmonella.
They also rang alarm bells over Itsu’s 180g packs of four frozen chocolate bao buns – stocked in Tesco and Waitrose – after concerns were raised that they may contain milk, which isn’t mentioned on its label.
