A Covid expert has outlined the current “most common” symptoms seen in patients with coronavirus.
Dr Nathan Goodyear, Covid expert and medical director at Brio Medical, told Express.co.uk that the key signs that are being reported now are “similar” to last year.
From tiredness to sore throat and runny nose to muscle aches, you can still experience a whole host of symptoms.
The doctor recommended looking out for the following Covid signs:
- Fatigue/tiredness
- Joint/muscle aches and pains
- Cough
- Runny nose/post-nasal drip
- Nasal and head congestion
- Sore throat
- Hoarseness of voice.
One symptom is different this year
While the majority of prevalent symptoms resemble signs seen in previous waves, the doctor explained that one sign has changed.
Dr Goodyear shared that fevers in Covid patients seem to last shorter and be milder this year.
He said: “The fevers associated with the patients testing positive for Covid this fall are mild [and] short in duration.”
On the other hand, symptoms like fatigue seem to play a huge role with newer variants like Pirola.
Speaking on ITV’s show This Morning, Dr Nighat Arif explained she’s seeing people who are feeling “shattered”.
Current symptoms can also appear with other viruses
Dr Goodyear added that the symptoms outlined above are “routinely” seen in various fall and winter viral infections.
The Covid expert said: “As a result, symptoms do not provide distinct identification of the viral, or non-viral, source of the symptoms.
“Pre-pandemic, these symptoms were routinely found, and expected, associated with the viral infection spikes characteristic of the fall and winter seasons.”
