A three-month-old baby girl was found dead in the woods near a Bronx homeless shelter and now the baby’s parents are in custody.

The horrific discovery was made by police on Sunday around 8:30pm near West 161 Street and the Major Deegan Expressway.

An NYPD spokesperson told DailyMail.com that a concerned family member alerted police to the missing baby and when they went to investigate they found the child unconscious and unresponsive.

The infant was identified as Genevieve Comager. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed the baby lived with her parents, ages 20 and 23, in the University Family Residence, a transitional housing unit located at 1041 University Avenue, and blocks away from Yankee Stadium.

It was not immediately clear if the baby died at the shelter or if she was left in the woods to die, a police source said.

A neighbor told ABC 7 News how ‘shocked’ she was. ‘It gets me so sad, how they go through that.’

The spokesperson said the parents names have not yet been released yet and the case is under investigation.

There have been no charges filed yet as police await the results of a city Medical Examiner autopsy that will determine the manner and cause of death, a police spokesperson said.
