Speaking at the scene, Acting Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith said: ‘At approximately 9:50pm tonight, fifth district officers responded to sounds of gunshots near the intersection of 14th Street and Saratoga Avenue.

‘When they arrived, officers located three people suffering from gunshot wounds. Two men were pronounced dead at the scene, a third was transported to an area hospital, with non life threatening injuries.

‘A short time later two additional males arrived at an area hospital suffering from gunshot wounds.

‘The preliminary investigation has revealed that the two victims were shot on this scene, and self transported to hospital.

‘One victim is listed in critical condition, and the other has non life threatening injuries.’

Answering questions from reporters, Chief Smith continued: ‘We are having these crew on crew senseless arguments with firearms being introduced when folks have disputes as opposed to being able to resolve them.

‘Our officers were present in this area, as they always are. The officer just so happened to be on another block when this incident occurred.’

Smith added: ‘We do have officers in areas were we find high crime in those particular areas, and we will continue to do that.

‘I think that these are crew on crew, these are historical beefs that have continued to happen. I think guns are being entered into these disagreements.

‘What we have to do is focus on how we can get some of these guns off the street.

One woman FOX 5 spoke to in the neighborhood said it sounded like a ‘war zone’ when the shots were fired.

So far, police have not disclosed any information regarding suspects or a motive.
