According to a local media outlet, the young soccer player was riding a horse in the Huelva province of Spain’s El Rocio region when he collided with a runaway horse.
Also, Rico’s club confirmed the news via a tweet. “Paris Saint-Germain learned of the accident involving its player Sergio Rico on Sunday,” they wrote on Twitter.
The club also said they remain in constant touch with Sergio Rico’s family and loved ones. “The entire Red and Blue community offers them its full support.” continued the post.

“Sergio is in good hands and fighting to pull through,” the player’s family announced in a statement on Sunday.
While the footballer receives the best possible care, we must proceed cautiously, particularly in the next 48 hours, stated his family’s statement. Later, a PSG spokesperson said the player was in serious condition.
“We are currently awaiting his medical reports, which we hope will be favorable to let you know when he has improved. We appreciate everyone’s concern, love, letters of encouragement, and inquiries about Sergio’s health,” the family statement further added.

At the age of 29, Rico made a name for himself as a goalkeeper. He joined the French champions, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), in 2020. Prior to that, Rico spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Fulham, a Premier League club.
Rico kickstarted his professional career at Sevilla, where he played an impressive 170 competitive matches and achieved success by winning the Europa League on two occasions. After his transfer from Sevilla to PSG in September 2019, Rico has made 29 appearances for the French club.
