A dad-of-four has recreated KFC Wicked Wings at home – complete with his own version of 11 herbs and spices.

The Australian man said he soaked the chicken wings in a bowl of egg and butter milk overnight before he coated them in plain flour, corn flour, herbs and spice mix.

For the herb and spice blend, he combined dried coriander, paprika, cayenne pepper, mustard powder, celery salt, onion powder, garlic powder, ginger powder, thyme, oregano, white pepper and salt.

What you’ll need to make KFC at home

Chicken wings

1 egg

Butter milk

Plain flour

Corn flour

Dried coriander

Cayenne pepper

Mustard powder

Celery salt

Onion powder

Garlic powder

Ginger powder

Dried thyme

Dried oregano

White pepper

‘The kids loved it,’ he wrote in a Facebook group.

He purchased more than 20 chicken wings from the supermarket for just $6.

The dad said he used one tablespoon of each spice and herb except the cayenne pepper, in which he added just half the tablespoon.

‘Then I added about two cups of plain flour and one cup of corn flour. Then I mixed it altogether,’ he said.

‘Sorry I don’t have exact measurements. I often cook based on sight and feel rather than follow exact recipes.’

After coating the chicken pieces with the herbs and spice mix, he cooked them in the deep fryer at 170 to 175 degrees Celsius until they were golden and crunchy.

‘I checked the inside of the chicken with a thermometer to ensure it was cooked all the way through. Then I allowed to cool on a rack,’ he said.

The dad said he made another dish using leftover wings the next day.

‘I had some extra wings that I coated in plain flour. I deep fried them, then put into a wok with a combo of sauces – tomato, BBQ, soy and Worcestershire, along with brown sugar and water,’ he said in an updated post.

‘Reduce in the wok for it to thicken, then add the cooked wings. Was a sticky sauce and was the best yet. We had them for lunch and it was our favourite.’

After sharing his creation on social media, many were amazed with his KFC version.

‘Wow looks authentic,’ one wrote, while another added: ‘Looks delicious and like the real thing.’

Multiple versions of the fast food chain’s 11 herbs and spices recipe have been circulating online in recent years.

In 2016, one relative of KFC Colonel Harland Sanders found what he believed to be the original recipe that was tucked away in a family scrapbook for years.

The ingredients included plain flour, salt, dried thyme, dried basil, dried oregano, celery salt, black pepper, dried mustard, paprika, garlic salt, ground ginger, ground white pepper, buttermilk, egg and chicken.
