A married Elvis Presley impersonator paid a 16-year-old girl to have sex with him before giving her a tattoo, a court has heard.

Adrian Edwards, 57, is alleged to have first had sex with the teenager in the piercing room of his tattoo studio.

Edwards, a tattoo artist who has been pictured on social media wearing an Elvis jumpsuit before appearing on stage at a festival for Presley fans, is accused of paying the girl for sex when she was under the age of 18.

The girl, now in her 20s, told the court how she begged Edwards to give her a tattoo, telling him: ‘I’ll do anything’.

She said that she had sex with the married man from Newport, Wales, before she was 18 and that it ‘never should have happened’.

‘I asked him for a tattoo,’ she recalled. ‘I told him I wouldn’t tell anyone because I was underage.

‘I told him I would do anything for a tattoo. I didn’t mean like that.’

The woman tearfully told the court that she had sex with Edwards in his piercing room before having her first tattoo. She said she went on to have sex with Edwards many more times and he would often give her money after. ‘That was just what he did,’ she added.

Julia Cox, defending, suggested the girl was over the age of 18 when she first had sex with Edwards.

She replied: ‘No I was a lot younger than 18.’

Ms Cox asked her if she was exaggerating the details of the sex because she regretted what happened.

The woman replied: ‘No, I wouldn’t say exaggerate because that’s a very strong word and it’s not the truth.’

Asked if she regretted it, she insisted: ‘It never should have happened.’

Prosecutor James Wilson told Newport Crown Court: ‘He took her into the piercing room, locked the doors, and started to touch her.

‘He bent her over the piercing bed and put his penis inside her. Afterwards he laughed and asked her what tattoo she wanted.’

The jury was told Edwards later had intercourse and oral sex with the girl on a string of times at his tattoo parlour in Caerphilly.

The court heard Edwards paid the victim for sex – and she used the cash to buy alcohol and hair extensions. Edwards claimed the girl asked him for money on a number of occasions before they had sex, and he had given £100.

Mr Wilson said Edwards continued paying the victim for sex after she turned 18 years old.

But the jury was told only to consider alleged crimes before her 18th birthday when she was too young to accept payment for sex.

The court heard she contacted the police in 2019 and was interviewed about her allegations.

Edwards told police: ‘She was all over me, she would come up, stroke me and kiss me, all kinds of things. I thought: ‘She obviously wants more money’.

Edwards described their relationship as ‘completely clinical’. He described himself having a ‘high sex drive’ and admitted to using prostitutes in the past.

It was alleged he told police that sex between himself and the victim was ‘consensual’ and he paid her some of the time, and added: ‘No words were exchanged, it was an understanding.’

The court heard Edwards (pictured) told police he was 'disgusted with himself' but didn't see what he was doing was wrong as 'it was like a prostitute'.

Edwards added: ‘It was two birds with one stone, passion and helping her out with money.’

Mr Wilson told the jury Edwards’ police interview amounted to ‘admissions’ to the offences.

But he said Edwards claimed he didn’t have sex with her until she was over 18 and they had never agreed for money to be exchanged before the acts – but she would ask for money afterwards.

Edwards denies three offences of paying for sexual services of a girl aged 16 and 17.

The trial continues.
