Phillip Schofield announced on Saturday he would be departing This Morning after 21 years presenting the show.
He has found himself at the centre of a reported rift with co-host Holly Willoughby. It has been claimed the pair – who have been good friends for years – are no longer as close as they once were and hardly speak when not on camera.
Phillip 61, said in a statement: ‘I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.
‘Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.’
As the star moves on to other primetime television projects, MailOnline takes a look at Phil’s reported feuds over the years, including a new apparent swipe from Amanda Holden.

Phillip appeared to bump heads with was Amanda Holden after it was alleged he lost her a job on This Morning, with the actress appearing to take a swipe at Phil after he announced his exit from the show on Saturday.
It was claimed Amanda confronted Phil after Rochelle Humes was chosen to fill in for Holly Willoughby instead of her, as she believed he had a hand in the decision.
A source told The Sun: ‘Amanda was shocked. During the lunch with ITV executives, they let slip they thought the decision had been heavily influenced by Phil and that he had thrown a spanner in the works.’
However, Phil strongly denied the claims on Twitter, writing: ‘The end of another really sad weekend.
‘When you try for 35 years to be the easiest, most fun person to work with and you read such hurtful and wildly untrue stories from nameless “sources”.
‘Obviously I’ll take it on the chin..I just hope you know me better.’
Amanda later waded in on Ruth’s alleged complaint about the star, saying on Heart Radio: ‘I admire anyone who sticks up for themselves as it’s not an easy thing to do.’

Dig? She posted a strongman emoji in what appeared to be a sign of celebration just minutes after the shocking news was revealed
She later took another swipe at Phil on another episode of her radio show when asked what she wouldn’t like to find in her house, saying: ‘Spiders, flies and Phillip Schofield!’
However, Amanda appeared to make a thinly-veiled swipe at her former colleague Phil after he confirmed he had quit This Morning on Saturday.
The presenter took to Instagram to share a cryptic post just minutes after the shocking news was revealed amid Phillip’s ‘feud’ with co-host Holly.
She posted a strongman emoji in what appeared to be a sign of celebration and did not caption the post as she remained mysterious about its meaning.
Following Amanda’s seemingly sly dig, fans couldn’t help but take to the comments section to speculate it was directed at Phillip.
One wrote: ‘No words needed,’ while another said: ‘I know what that’s for.’
A third commented: ‘You would be a good replacement,’ suggesting she take over his role on the ITV breakfast show.

One of Phil’s most well-publicised squabbles was with his former This Morning co-host Fern Britton.
The pair presented the show together from 2002 to 2009 but have lost touch in the years since.
When Fern announced she was quitting This Morning, she addressed the entire team in general and didn’t mention Phil specifically.
In 2013, Phil confirmed in an interview with Heat that the pair were ‘not really’ in touch anymore.
Fern confirmed the same while speaking to MailOnline: ‘Like Morecambe and Wise, we chose not to live in each other’s pockets. We were a great professional partnership but we never went on holiday together.’
Fern – who has since become an author – was also absent from This Morning’s 25th anniversary celebrations that year but insisted it was nothing to do with Phil and she was simply busy.

In his book Life Is What You Make It, Phil revealed he had an awkward row with Fern in 2009 when she accused him of ‘meddling’ with the content of the show.
He wrote: ‘I walked back into the make-up room and calmly said, ‘Please don’t do that to me again’.
‘I think, for whatever reason, that was the point Fern decided she didn’t want to do This Morning any more.’
Their feud was back in the spotlight in 2018 when Fern appeared on This Morning via video link for the show’s 30th anniversary and claimed she wasn’t invited to the show’s BAFTA ceremony.
Speaking to Phil, she said: ‘Congrats on the BAFTA. That was absolutely wonderful and brilliant. I would have loved to have been there but I didn’t get an invitation.’
Phil was quick to dispute this, saying Fern was on stage in Scotland at the time but she replied: ‘I wasn’t on Monday night, I would have come but I wasn’t invited.’
Phil later suggested on Twitter that Fern was suffering from ‘memory loss’ and the team would have loved to have had her there.
Phillip also revealed Fern never got in touch with him after he came out as gay on This Morning in 2020, but she did message his wife Steph.
He said: ‘When I came out, she didn’t text me. She did text Steph though, which was really kind.’
Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford
Phillip has endured frosty relations with husband and wife presenting duo Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford over the years.
It all kicked off in 2019 when it was reported that Ruth had filed a complaint against Phil to ITV bosses.
Fans speculated the complaint may have been down to an awkward moment between the pair caught on camera that year.
Ruth appeared at the end of an episode of This Morning to preview what was coming up on Loose Women and was cut off by Phil while she was speaking.
Phil said: ‘Guys, we’re going to have to jump in there and stop you I’m afraid because we’re a bit tight for time at this end. Thank you, Ruth.’
Ruth, who clearly looked unimpressed with the interruption, responded: ‘Well I only had about two more words to say,’ and looked away from the camera.
Claims: Ruth Langsford was famously unimpressed when Phil cut her off on camera while Eamonn Holmes has branded him ‘passive aggressive’ (pictured in 2020)
It was later claimed eight different ITV presenters have broken their silence regarding Phillip’s attitude.
A report stated the situation behind the scenes at This Morning had become ‘toxic’ in recent months, with employees too scared to speak out publicly for fear of backlash.
Meanwhile, Phil later found himself in the crosshairs of Ruth’s husband Eamonn Holmes after he left ITV in 2021 when he and Ruth were replaced on This Morning by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.
Eamonn took aim at Phil in an interview with the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine, calling him ‘passive-aggressive’ and claiming he has a habit of ‘snubbing people’.
Speaking about Phil cutting Ruth short, Eamonn said: ‘Phillip is renowned for snubbing people.
‘He’s very passive-aggressive. It’s up to Ruth to say how she felt, but I was feeling hurt for her. No one would have snubbed me like that.
‘I have a good Belfast street fighter in me… I would be direct. I don’t go for presenters who think they have a special privilege or aura or influence.’
Phillip hasn’t been shy about airing his previous tensions with Piers Morgan, although the pair have since buried the hatchet.
Phil accused Piers of being ‘deceitful’ when the former newspaper journalist asked for ‘memorabilia’ of his, which Phil believed he’d use to write stories about him.
It later emerged Piers had written an unofficial biography of the star, which Phil discussed in his memoir.
He wrote: ‘I was furious. Not so much that he had written the book, but that he had deceived me.

‘We didn’t speak for a long time. There were awkward moments: once, the two us were in a lift for what felt like an endless descent.’
But the pair soon made up after Piers began working at ITV. Phil wrote: ‘One day I realised how stupid this feud was.
‘I was angry, and he’d actually been flattering and kind in the biography (although utterly deceitful). It was time to make up.
‘He was nervous when I walked over. ‘Enough,’ I said, and I shook his hand. We’ve been fine ever since.’
Phil’s latest feud is reportedly with his co-host and longtime close friend Holly Willoughby.
It has been claimed the pair are ‘not as close as they once were’ and now barely speak off camera’.
The ITV stars became ‘great friends’ having first met on Dancing on Ice and they have presented This Morning together since 2009. She was also described as his ‘rock’ when he came out as gay live on This Morning in 2020.
But their relationship is said to have become strained in recent months. They came under fire when they were accused of skipping the queue to see the Queen lying-in-state last September.
Phil took three weeks off in March as his brother convicted of child sex offences. In his absence Holly was paired with Alison Hammond and ITV bosses were said to be overjoyed and are now looking for more opportunities to pair them up.
‘Their relationship has cooled’: It has been claimed that Holly has made it clear she would remain hosting the ITV daytime show if Phillip ever expressed an interest in leaving
The presenting duo (pictured in November 2009) have worked together for more than a decade after Holly took over from Fern Britton as Phillip’s co-host back in 2009
And Holly has reportedly made it clear she wants to remain hosting the ITV daytime show if Phillip ever expressed an interest in leaving.
An insider told The Sun: ‘Holly adores This Morning and for the first time in 14 years she has made it clear that should Phil ever leave she would want to stay. They are separate entities. It has become an open secret that things aren’t as rosy as they once were.
‘To those around them on set, it has become clear recently that Holly and Phil are not as close as they once were. Professionally you would have no idea there was anything going on because on camera they are acting exactly the same, but behind the scenes their relationship has cooled.’
The same sources said that Holly and Phillip’s banter and ‘camaraderie’ off-camera was not the same and had ‘dwindled’.
An insider also claimed that the pair do not often speak to each other unless on camera while hosting This Morning.
Another insider added: ‘It has become an open secret that things aren’t as rosy as they once were, Holly however has made her position clear and that is that she wants to remain at the heart of This Morning.’
