Arbery was pursued by three White citizens, Travis McMichael and his father Gregory, as well as William Bryan, on February 23, 2020. Malice murder, four counts of felony murder, two acts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment were all filed against the three males.

The defense Attorneys for Gregory McMichael, Laura Hogue pointed out Ahmaud Arbery’s toenails during her closing arguments as she blamed Arbery for his own death.

Photos from the autopsy of Ahmaud Arbery were shown to the jurors on 16 November 2021. According to the reports, he was hit by two of the three shotgun rounds fired. Dr. Edmund Donoghue also claimed that either one blast alone would have killed him.
The photos of Arbery’s injuries were shown close up to the jury as it showed several large abrasions to his face from felling in the street following the final gunshot. There were no alcohol or drugs in Arbery’s body, other than a ‘tiny amount’ of THC.
