The top 10 most expensive zip codes have been revealed, with median home prices in the Bay Area and the Hamptons hitting more than $8million.
Though general median sale prices of homes declined in 2023, some of the country’s premier zip codes have climbed to the top, according to an annual ranking by Property Shark.
The Bay Area town of Atherton, and Southampton village of Sagaponack took the first two spots on the ranking list.
Atherton boasted a median home sale price of $8.3million, while two of the ten cities tied at $4.5million in sixth place.

An additional six Californian cities were added to the list, along with one from Washington, Florida, and a second from New York.
The most expensive zip code in 2023 was Atherton, a city in the county of San Mateo, just about 25 miles from San Francisco.
Atherton has a population of 6,499 and 73 percent are white, while a little over 18 percent are Asian.
According to the Census Bureau, Atherton is well above the highest median household income of $250,000 and has reported a poverty rate of just three percent.
Atherton is filled with single-family homes that have had to follow the one-acre minimum lot requirement that was implemented back in the 1920s.
Sagaponack, New York, came in as the second most expensive zip code in the nation with a median sales price of $8,075,000.
The city is nestled in a village in Long Island’s Hamptons and has experienced a 40 percent increase in its sale value since last year when it came in at $5.75million.
Property Shark reported that this is ‘the first time since 2016’ that both Atherton and Sagaponack have nearly tied each other.
Miami Beach, Florida, took the third spot as the city came in at $5.5million, specifically in Fisher Island.
The popular city in the Sunshine State has continually maintained its pricey status as it placed as number four in the 2022 report.
Santa Barbara, another Golden State city came in at number four with a median sale price of $5millon.

The city is home to the exclusive Montecito enclave that well-known celebrities including Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Santa Barbara first gained a spot in the top 10 in 2021 when it ranked seventh with a median sale price of $4.1million.
The Los Angeles city of Beverly Hills came in at number five at $4.8million with its famed 90210 zip code.
Known as home to the rich and famous, Beverly Hills’ median house price actually went down by six percent compared to the previous year.
Both Stinson Beach, California and Water Mill, New York came in at number six and had a median house price of $4.5million.
Stinson Beach, a community in Marin County was home to late Senator Dianne Feinstein.
Her home was recently previewed at nearly $8.5million, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
This was Stinson Beach’s first time in the top ten as it ranked at number 21 last year.
Water Mill, just four miles away from Sagaponack saw an increase of 22 percent in its median home price in the past year.
On the other side of the country, Newport Beach, California took its spot at number seven with a median house price of $4,495,000.
The city in Orange County contributed five zip codes alone to the reports full list of the 100 most elite zip codes in the US.
Median sales in the city have ranged from $2.49million- $4.5million.
In eighth place came Santa Monica, California at $4,489,000 which made a two percent price increase from 2022.

The city experienced an eight percent decrease compared to 2022 when it was three places higher at number six.
The final and tenth most expensive zip code in the US was Rancho Santa Fe, California which is located in San Diego County.
The median home sale price for the city was $4,248,000 which went down by just one percent compared to the previous year.
The San Diego community first entered the top ten list last year when its median price was $4,275,00.
