A California parrot worth $2,500 was reunited with its family more than two weeks after brazen thieves were caught on video stealing the bird off a porch.

Luna, an African grey parrot, was stolen by a man on March 12 from the porch of Karen Gerardo’s Santa Ana home.

On Tuesday, Gerardo was reunited with her beloved pet of 10 years after officials were able to track down a suspect who was believed to have taken the bird.

Video of the theft went viral last week and showed a red SUV pulling up and double parking in front of the Orange County home. A grey hooded figure gets out of the car and grabs the large cage housing the bird.

‘Lost pets are rarely returned,’ said a thankful Gerardo in an interview with ABC 7. ‘And to have the outcome we had today is just amazing.’

In the shocking doorbell footage, the one thief is seen helped by his friend as they load the cage into the vehicle before driving off.

Santa Ana police were able to use the surveillance video to track down the SUV.

They identified one man as a potential suspect and arrived at the man’s home on Tuesday to conduct a search.

According to ABC 7, the suspect was not home.

A woman inside said she had been given the expensive parrot as a gift from the man who stole it whose name has not been released.

It’s unknown what their relationship is at this time.

On average, African grey parrots cost anywhere from $1,500 to $3,500.

A Facebook post by Abigail Ayapantecatl several weeks ago said the situation was dire and that the family was desperate to bring the bird home.

‘PLEASE share! We are trying to find the thieves who stole my brother’s African Gray parrot,’ Ayapantecatl wrote. ‘Our parrot is sick and needs daily medication.’

At the time, the woman said the bird was just ‘getting some air’ when the men took her and the bird was just outside for a brief period.

‘My brother tried chasing them down but they drove off quickly down,’ she wrote.

Luna’s family say they are just glad she is back with them after the scary incident.

‘We couldn’t really adjust to her loss,’ Gerardo told KTLA

‘Birds like this imprint on a person so it affects them also,’ the woman said.

‘We’re just very happy to have her returned and it’s thanks to all the help and outreach,’ the bird owner said.

Only one unnamed suspect has been identified and police are actively searching for him and looking into any leads on the second man from the video.
