A newborn baby girl has been found abandoned on the doorstep of a stranger’s home, leading police to launch a desperate search for her mother. 

NSW Police are now appealing for help from the public after the little girl was found at a home on Girra Road, Blacktown, shortly after 2.40pm on Friday.

Paramedics treated the baby before she was taken to Blacktown Hospital. 

Police believe the baby may have been left at the location between 12.30pm and 2.40pm on Friday. 

The residents of the home alerted police when they found the baby after going outside. 

They had reportedly only lived at the home for a week.

A police operation is now under way in the vicinity to try to find the mother.
