An elderly woman is in a critical condition after she was struck by a truck on one of Sydney‘s busiest roads as a paramedic with distinctive face tattoos led the frantic efforts to save her life.

Emergency crews raced to the scene on the City West Link at Lilyfield, close to Norton Street in Sydney’s inner-west, shortly before 11am on Monday following reports a pedestrian had been hit by a truck.

The pedestrian, a 66-year-old woman, was treated at the scene for serious injuries and rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.

Harrowing footage from the scene shows emergency responders surrounding the critically injured woman as she laid on the stretcher covered in blood.

She was shielded from the searing heat and passing traffic by a white sheet as paramedics carefully placed her into the ambulance.

The male truck driver was not injured but was taken to hospital to undergo mandatory testing.

Emergency crews remain at the scene.

Officers from Strike Force Raptor were among the police units called to the scene.

‘A crime scene has been established, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident has commenced,’ a NSW Police statement read.

Citybound lanes on the City West Link remain closed with traffic diverted to Norton St, Lilyfield and Balmain Roads.

Motorists are urged to use either Parramatta or Victoria Road as an alternative route.

‘Local diversions are in place. Follow the directions of emergency services on site,’ a Live Traffic Sydney alert states.

The traffic and highway patrol unit urged motorists to avoid travel through the area and shared a photo of multiple emergency vehicles at the scene.

‘Lengthy delays expected,’ police added.

Westbound lanes on the City West Link remain open to traffic.

Anyone with dashcam footage or witnessed the crash is urged to call Crime Stoppers.

It was among several traffic incidents across Sydney on Monday morning, including a two truck crash on the M4 at Eastern Creek, a multi-vehicle smash on Mamre Road in nearby Orchard Hills and a diesel spill on the M5 at Hammondville.

It follows the death of single mother Leonia Picone, who was hit and killed by a semi-trailer in Wetherill Park last month while giving her teenage son a driving lesson.

She was farewelled by more than 200 friends and family at her funeral last week.
