It comes after Trump said in an interview with NBC News host Kristen Welker last weekend that he could have already pardoned himself before he left office if he really wanted to and said it’s ‘unlikely’ he would do so if he becomes president again.
Sitting down for a wide-ranging interview for MSNBC’s Sunday show Inside with Jen Psaki, Clinton also bashed House Republicans for their impeachment inquiry against Biden.
She claimed the GOP is manufacturing ‘a political problem that they can try to use for their own benefit.’
Hillary Clinton said Sunday she doesn’t believe anything that Donald Trump says – and bashed Republicans for creating ‘a political problem that they can try to use for their own benefit’ by launching an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden
Trump said last weekend that it was ‘unlikely’ he will pardon himself from the four different sets of indictments against him, claiming he is innocent of the charges he is accused of
‘They just want to, you know, be able to grandstand and try to cause President Biden problems,’ she added. ‘I mean, it’s not a real threat. It’s a terrible bother. But more than that, it is a real confession by the Republican party: They have no agenda. They have no interest in trying to bring people together to solve problems.’
Clinton also praised Kamala Harris for doing ‘a much better job than she gets credit for’ as the first female vice president – and warning that if Russian President Vladimir Putin ‘has a chance,’ he will interfere in the 2024 election.
Psaki asked Clinton during Sunday’s interview: ‘[Trump] recently said that he is very unlikely – it would be very unlikely that he would attempt to pardon himself. Do you believe him?’
‘I don’t believe him on anything,’ Clinton shot back.
‘Why would I start believing him on that?’ she continued during her sit-down interview on Psaki’s MSNBC Sunday show. ‘You know, the thing about him – and I’m not the only person who’s noticed this – is he engaged in what psychologists call projection.’
‘So, whenever he accuses somebody else of doing something, it’s almost guaranteed he’s doing it himself or he’s already done it,’ the former Secretary of State and once-America’s First Lady explained. ‘Or whenever he denies thinking about doing something or doing it, it’s almost guaranteed he is thinking about it or he’s already done it.’
Speaking with NBC’s Meet the Press last weekend, Trump said: ‘I could have pardoned myself. Do you know what? I was given an option to pardon myself. I could have pardoned myself when I left.’
Clinton sat down with Biden’s former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki for an interview Sunday where she also praised Vice President Kamala Harris for doing ‘a much better job than she gets credit for’
He added: ‘I was told by some people that these are sick lunatics that I’m dealing with. Give yourself a pardon, your life will be a lot easier.’ I said I would never give myself a pardon.’
Trump is facing four separate sets of charges – two of which are related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results. All of the indictments were handed down this year starting with allegations he gave porn star Stormy Daniels a hush-money payment.
The ex-President has repeatedly said that he doesn’t have an interest in pardoning himself, claiming that he is innocent of the charged crimes.
Welker pressed Trump, asking if he still wouldn’t pardon himself ‘if you were reelected in this moment.’
‘Well, I think it’s very unlikely,’ Trump replied. ‘What, what did I do wrong? I didn’t do anything wrong. You mean because I challenge an election, they want to put me in jail?’
