World-renowned academic Noam Chomsky has defended asking Jeffrey Epstein for financial advice even after the disgraced financier became a convicted pedophile in 2008.
The linguistics professor, 94, confirmed that he received about $270,000 from an account linked to Epstein in March, 2018, but claimed the transfer involved his own funds connected to his late wife.
He told DailyMail.com that both the money transfer and his relationship with Epstein following his conviction were ‘completely public for many years.’
When asked why he would choose to continue to associate with a convicted pedophile, the progressive activist said, ‘Many had further contacts with him, including my wife and me.’
‘Epstein regularly attended research seminars at Harvard,’ he added. ‘No one ever discussed the matter because there was nothing to discuss.

‘In civilized societies, a person who has served a sentence returns to society without prejudice.’
Chomsky claimed Epstein was simply helping him rearrange his own funds after being being asked for help with a ‘technical matter,’ the Wall Street Journal reported.
‘The simplest way seemed to be to transfer funds from one account in my name to another, by way of his office,’ he told the outlet.
Epstein, who was dogged for years by allegations that he sexually abused girls and young women, was found dead in a Manhattan jail cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The city’s medical examiner ruled his death a suicide.
Epstein’s former mistress, Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted of crimes related to the sex ring and sentenced to 20 years in prison. She is appealing her conviction.
The pedophile also paid Bard College president Leon Botstein $150,000 years after being convicted of soliciting a child for sex in 2008, as reported by the Journal.
The music conductor, who has lead the prestigious New York school since 1975, conceded that he received the funds from an account linked to Epstein in 2016. He claimed to have given the funds to Bard College as part of a donation that totaled more than $1million.
The school confirmed the donation and said they were Botstein’s compensation for working on an advisory board for Gratitude America – a charity foundation Epstein created in 2012.
Botstein, however, claimed that while Epstein named him as a consultant and made the payments as fees for his alleged work, he never actually worked for the foundation. He told the Journal that Epstein did not want to write a check for the school so instead ‘concocted this scheme.’
‘He took pity on me, and he said, “I’m gonna give you money and you do whatever you want with it,” Botstein added.

The Journal had previously reported both Chomsky and Botstein met with Epstein multiple times after he was registered as a sex offender in 2008.
Botstein had dozens of meetings with Epstein at his townhouse, the first in 2012 to thank him for his donations, which continued. In 2015, Epstein donated 66 laptops, the documents show.
Botstein admitted he was aware of Epstein’s past.
‘We looked him up, and he was a convicted felon for a sex crime,’ he said. Bard has a large program providing education to prisoners,’ he said. ‘We believe in rehabilitation.’
According to the documents, Botstein, who was also the music director for the American Symphony Orchestra, invited Epstein to an opera at Bard in 2013, and a concert at the college in 2016. Epstein planned to bring some of his young female assistants each time.
DailyMail.com has reached out Botstein for comment on this story.
Meanwhile, the documents also revealed billionaire LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman visited Epstein’s private Caribbean Island after he was convicted of sex crimes – asking the pedophile billionaire to help raise funds for MIT.
Epstein allegedly used the $125 million estate to abuse underage girls alongside Maxwell.
Hoffman traveled to the island with Joi Ito, the then-MIT Media Lab director, who had asked Hoffman and Epstein to help raise funds for MIT.
He apologized for meeting with the convicted sex offender, telling the Journal: ‘While I relied on MIT’s endorsement, ultimately I made the mistake, and I am sorry for my personal misjudgment,’
Documents also revealed that director Woody Allen attended dozens of dinners with his wife at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse, while the former president of Harvard University, Lawrence Summers, asked the late pervert for help raising cash.
According to the Journal the Oscar-winning movie director Woody Allen, attended dozens of dinners with his wife, Soon-Yi Previn, at Epstein’s mansion and invited him to film screenings.

They reportedly got together nearly every month in 2014 and 2015, and also visited the studio of artist Jeff Koons in 2013, and to Sotheby’s auction house in 2017.
A spokesman for Allen and his wife, Soon-Yi, said: ‘Woody and Soon-Yi lived in the same neighborhood as Epstein and were frequently invited to dinner parties at his townhouse.
The pair were said to have been such regulars that Epstein’s staff knew to prepare a special flourless chocolate cake for Allen.
Soon-Yi is the adopted daughter of Allen’s movie star former wife Mia Farrow. She and Allen wed in Venice in late 1997, when Allen was 61, and she was 26.
Allen was accused of molesting his adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow, but denied that claim, and no criminal charges were ever brought against him.
‘There were always other guests at those gatherings. Woody never had a business meeting with Epstein and not once spent time with him without Soon-Yi also being present.’
All of the meetings with Epstein happened before federal investigators accused him with a slew of sex-trafficking crimes. The charges happened after media reports of his sweetheart deal in Florida in 2008 that saw him quietly serve time for sex crimes.
