They will go down as one of the sexiest couples in television history.
And on Wednesday, the show’s famed ‘McDreamy’ was finally crowned People magazine’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ for the coveted annual issue.
But for his former TV flame, it was just an ordinary day.

For a solid decade Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey had millions of viewers gripped by their red-hot romance and off-the-charts chemistry
While the actress is yet to publicly comment on Patrick’s big award, it was clear she was busy with her own errands and life.
As exclusive DailyMail.com photos show, the television star loaded up on groceries at the popular and pricey Erewhon market in Calabasas, California.
She filled eight bags and maneuvered two shopping carts back to her black Mercedes in the parking lot.
Sporting a striped cardigan, white t-shirt, blue slacks, and sneakers, she cut a casual but chic figure during the grocery shopping trip.
She pulled her back in a sleek ponytail and accessorized with Gucci aviator sunglasses, and casually threw her designer handbag in one of the carts.
A grocery haul of that size, especially from celebrities, typically calls for Erewhon employees to help customers transport their goods to their car.
But Ellen showed she’s no diva and handled it on her own.

Dr. Meredith Grey and Derek ‘McDreamy’ Shepherd’s love affair on the show started as a one-night stand after the characters met in a bar.
But the relationship went on for ten seasons – 2005-2015 – captivating viewers with the roller coaster romance.
Off screen, the actors have remained friends and have even said they would love to work together again.
‘We’ve done some of our greatest work together, we had a great time doing it and we created something really iconic,’ she said at a Disney event in 2022.
‘I think the fans would absolutely love it.’
She left the show in 2022, admitting in interviews that ‘playing the same role for 19 years was turning her brain into ‘scrambled eggs.’
When asked by Drew Barrymore on her talk show what she she planned to do next she said: ‘I have three kids and so I take care of them, and it’s really important for me to be around them and more present for them.’

Ellen was not wearing her wedding ring for the Erewhon shopping outing, but she is still married to music producer Chris Ivery, 56,
The two were seen together in the stands of the US Open this September.
They have three children, Stella, 14, Sienna, nine, and Eli, six.
Dempsey, meanwhile, has been married to wife Jillian, 57, since 1999, and is father to the couple’s daughter Tallula, 21, and twin sons Darby and Sullivan, 16.
While the hunky actor has been featured inside the annual People issue in the past, he surprisingly had not made it on the cover until now.
‘I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing,’ he told People, ‘like this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid.’
He added: ‘I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life. It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump…’
