Tina Hobley health: Actress suffered a serious rotator cuff injury – symptoms to spot

Tina Hobley, 50, is best known for her long-running role as Chrissie Williams in the BBC One medical drama series Holby City which she appeared on for 12 years. For Tina, medical drama became a painful reality when she sustained serious injuries on the reality show The Jump.

In an interview with HELLO! magazine, Tina discussed her harrowing “three major traumas”, which she sustained during her stint on the show.

She said: “My elbow came out of its socket and my arm was broken in two places; I tore my rotator cuff in my shoulder – a common rugby injury which has ended careers – and I had a full rupture of my ACL [anterior cruciate ligament] in the knee.

“I was told [by physios] that just one of these injuries would have been one of the most serious seen on the show. But to have three was unprecedented.”

The actress had to use crutches following the accident on the Channel 4 programme, in which she damaged her knee, shoulder and arm.

In addition to experiencing agonising pain, her injuries took a toll on her family and social life.

Tina revealed: “For much of the year I haven’t been able to drive, dress, wash my hair or have a bath unaided.

“My daughter has had to help me put my clothes on, for goodness’ sake.

“And for months at a time I haven’t been able to take the kids to school, run errands, or do any of the things I love like yoga, cycling or walking any kind of distance.”

Tina revealed her annoyance over her injuries, in that it could have easily been avoided.

The show admitted that her accident occurred when members of the crew failed to clear the out-run – the landing slope of the ski jump – for her practice jump.

Four pieces of muscle work together to form the rotator cuff.

The rotator cuff keeps your shoulder moving in all directions. A tear in any of these muscles can weaken the rotator cuff.

Pain and symptoms associated with a rotator cuff injury can include a dull ache deep in the shoulder, disturbed sleep, and arm weakness.
