House Republicans will target their investigatory machinery at Joe Biden‘s family just hours after the president delivers his State of the Union speech before a joint meeting of Congress next week.
The hearing, which will focus on Twitter suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story, is part of a wide-ranging probe that House Oversight panel chair Rep. James Comer has promised to probe alleged Biden family ‘influence peddling.’
The investigation comes just as Biden tries to rally the nation with an applause-designed speech on prime time TV – hoping to sell his agenda in advance of a reelection campaign the White House says he intends to run. The hearing will get underway at a time when cable networks are usually rehashing the speech and giving it additional airtime.
It will involve testimony by top Twitter executives forced out by company head Elon Musk, and relates to explosive and sometimes tawdry allegations linked to the infamous laptop, which a Wilmington computer repair shop owner says he gave to a representative of former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, which led to bombshell reporting on its contents. Other probes plan to target ‘weaponization’ of government, with subpoenas of government officials in the offing while Biden is trying to prepare a budget and set the agenda for Washington.

Maryland Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin says the Oversight probe is shaping up to be a ‘hatchet job.’ Democrats are positioning to battle Republicans on another panel, probing ‘weaponization’ of government, with the announcement that former impeachment manager Stacey Plaskett (D-U.S.V.I.) will serve as the top Democrat on the select subcommittee. She is a lawyer and former prosecutor.
Comer, who appeared on Sean Hannity’s prime time Fox News program Tuesday night, has accused the Biden family of selling ‘access for profit around the world to the detriment of American interests.’
He has also said big tech worked to ‘hide information about the Biden family’s suspicious business schemes and Joe Biden’s involvement,’ as Bloomberg News reported.

On Saturday, he told Fox News Channel the Biden ‘family has a history of receiving lots of anonymous donations from China, whether it be to the Biden Center for Diplomacy, whether it be to shady business dealings, whether it be for Hunter’s artwork. I mean, there is a pattern here, and this is very concerning.’
The hearings about Biden and family members comes as House Republicans kicked off hard-charging policy probes, with hearings Tuesday on the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and the border crisis.
The new select subcommittee on ‘weaponization’ of government is preparing to fire off subpoenas – with plans to focus on the Justice Department and school board protests that erupted last year.
‘I anticipate there will be subpoenas, not just from this select subcommittee but from many of the agencies that have refused to comply with document requests,’ she told the Washington Examiner, saying there would ‘absolutely’ be speedy subpoenas.
Democrats are designing their own strategy to push back. Former Judiciary panel chair Rep. Jerold Nadler is among those already banking Republicans will overreach.
‘Clearly, when they when they go off on nonsense, we’re gonna push back at it,’ Nadler told CNN.
The White House has repeatedly denied Biden knew about his son’s business dealings. Republicans got a roadmap for what to ask from a long email trail potential business deals that were captured on his laptop, many during at time when he has admitted he was spiraling into heavy drug use.
The White House positioned one communications staff member, Ian Sams, to ride heard on the litany of GOP probes. But he has lately been occupied by the growing Biden documents debacle. He briefed reporters at the White House on the subject Wednesday, after the FBI searched Biden’s Rehoboth, Del. beach house but failed to turn up any classified material.
