Healthy sharing platter ideas to help you lose weight
Sharing platters have been on the rise since lockdown, as they are the perfect alternative for an al-fresco dinner at home. Food boards are ideal for summer gatherings or to share with friends and family in your own backyard.
A grazing board is more than just nibbles and crakers; it’s the pimped up version of the old cheese board or cheese platter – the best part, it doesn’t require cooking. But can it also be healthy?
The answer is yes, it is possible to host a garden party while you stay on track with your weight loss goals.
Unfortunately, some of the most popular ingredients to make grazing platter ideas should not be used if losing weight and staying healthy is what you are after. So, forget about the cheese, crackers or chocolate for the dessert platter.
These are the best options if you are looking to prepare a healthy meal to share with family or friends.
Mediterranean platter
This tasty but healthy sharing platter can include: asparagus, mushroom, artichoke hearts, cherry tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, wholemeal pitta bread and light halloumi.
Mexican platter
If you want to go for a spicy option, you can also include: avocado, tomatoes, King prawns, wholemeal wraps, lettuce, sweetcorn and chilli flakes.
Asian platter
If you want to go for an Asian vibe, you can still keep it healthy making sure your platter has: smoked salmon, cucumber, oysters, celery, lettuce and shallots.
Dessert platter
No chocolate is allowed, but you can still enjoy a delicious dessert platter adding: strawberries, granola, kiwi, blueberries, watermelon or banana.
Tips to create a fabulous food platter:
1. Make sure you have the number one ingredient: the board.
However, you don’t need a giant wooden board to make it happen. You can use a breadboard, a baking tray or a marble pastry board.
Alternatively, and if you don’t have any of these at home, you can use any kind of board covering it with baking paper
2. Use bowls for the dips.
Although ideally, you want to place everything on the board, some dips might make it messy. If you don’t want to lose the artistic look, use little bowls and place them on the board too.
3. Just fill it up
A lot of people will be eating from that platter and you want to make it look good.
Combine some large ingredients with smaller ones but never leave a blank spot!
4. Decorate your platter.
Edible flowers or herb leaves will make your board even more aesthetically pleasing.
And voilà, you’re ready to impress your guests this summer with a spectacular and healthy grazing platter. 1
