Danelli was mostly known for being the drummer and founding member of the band The Young Rascals.

He was one of the great underappreciated rock drummers in history. Together with the Young Rascals, Dino was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

To support singer Sandu Scott and her Scottys, Cavaliere and Danelli journeyed to Las Vegas in January 1963–1964; they then returned to New York City in February 1964.

They made their stage debut that month at the Choo Choo Club in Garfield, New Jersey, alongside the Young Rascals.

Dino Danelli, the drummer for The Rascals, passed away at age 78 on  December 15, 2022.

Guitarist Gene Cornish said in a statement that he relayed the news with a “sad heart” on his Facebook page.

“I must inform you of Dino Danelli’s passing with a shattered heart. He was the best drummer I’ve ever seen, and he was my brother.

I am currently in a terrible state. Dino, rest in peace. He wrote, “I love you, brother.”

Joe Russo, Danelli’s spokesperson, also left a note on The Rascals’ Facebook page. The Rascals were previously known as The Young Rascals.

After speaking with Danelli’s immediate family and the other Rascals members, I informed the fans of the Facebook above groups about Dino’s passing this afternoon.

According to Russo, Danelli has “no manager or PR” other than himself serving as a spokesperson.

Russo stated that the late rocker was “an insomniac,” which caused him to “sometimes stay awake for days because he was always writing, reading, painting, drawing, and watching films,” and that “art, music, and film consumed his thoughts and his emotions.”

Danelli was raised as a jazz drummer and was born in 1944 in Jersey City, New Jersey, to an Italian family.

His band, originally named The Young Rascals, was founded in the middle of the 1960s after he teamed up with guitarist Cornish, pianist Felix Cavaliere, and singer Eddie Brigati.

Before being admitted into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame in 2010, they were first honored in 1997 by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

After The Rascals split up in the 1970s, Danelli and Cornish started a group named Bulldog, which they disbanded in 1975.
