His love for sports broadcasting developed in high school, and the feeling persisted in Madison where he worked as a play-by-play announcer for the “Student-U” program on the Big Ten Network.

Additionally, he was also an announcer at WSUM 91.7 FM student radio. For his internship, he chose ESPN Radio at Philadelphia and Madison.

After announcing his departure from WISN-TV on June 22, sports reporter and anchor Stephen Watson is reportedly moving on to some other Milwaukee-area media organization.

The Business Journal and Stephen Watson both declined to acknowledge the rumor. He hasn’t yet updated his LinkedIn profile, which still lists WISN-TV as his present employer.

Today marks my final day working at @WISN12News. It’s been an incredible ride covering Wisconsin’s glory years in sports alongside great teammates and friends. I’ll cherish those opportunities and memories for life. pic.twitter.com/MIswqouBra

The resignation of Watson was confirmed by Jan Wade, president and general manager of Channel 12. Watson’s position on the sports roster will be filled by Jared Fialko, who has been covering the station for a few weeks.

After Dan Needles, the station’s sports director since 1998, retired in May, Dario Melendez was appointed to the position of sports director.

Why Did Stephen Watson Leave WISN-TV?

Stephen Watson is reportedly leaving WISN-TV after having trouble getting along with the new sports directors. Watson’s resignation occurs two months after WISN-TV’s new sports director took over.

This baseless rumor has not been confirmed by any party involved.

A year later, he moved on to work as a sports reporter for WPTZ/WNNE in Burlington, Vermont, until joining the Big 12 Sports group in November of 2014.
