CBS 48 Hours: What Happened To Johnny Altinger? Parents And Family Today- Where Are They Now?

Johnny Altinger was murdered in one of the most heinous and brutal murders in American history in 2008.

He became a victim of serial killer Mark Twitchell’s journey and experiment. Twitchell, his assassin, was inspired by Dexter Morgan, the main character in the hit series “Dexter,” a serial killer who preys on criminals.

As a result, Twitchell was dubbed “The Dexter Killer,” and Atlinger was his first victim.

What Happened To Johnny Altinger? CBS 48 Hours Looks Into The Case

Johnny Altinger’s murder case has been once again reopened by CBS 48 Hours through the episode “The Dexter Killer.” The episode is set to air on Saturday, April 23 on CBS and is also streaming on Paramount+.

48 Hours focuses on the investigative journalist Steve Lillebuen’s encounter with Twitchell and the letters exchanged between them. Lillebuen had set out to write a book about the Dexter-obsessed murderer in late 2010 and was called by Twitchell himself.

The victim Johnny Altinger had unknowingly chatted with Twitchell on the dating website Plenty of Fish.

He had set out to meet the woman on October 10, 2008, only to be met with death through Twitchell who had posed as a woman on the dating site.

Twitchell had lured Johnny into a “kill room” set up in the former’s garage-turned-film studio. There, Twitchell bludgeoned and stabbed him, cut him apart, partially burned him, and then dumped his remains in garbage bags into a storm sewer.

Johnny Altinger is survived by his parents Aribert and Elfriede Altinger who have decided to stay away from the media.

Thus, not many updates on the Altinger family and its members are accessible at the moment. They may still be residing in Edmonton, Alberta, their native hometown. The killer Twitchell is also from the same city.

Hence, further updates on the broken Atlinger family are still under review.

Case Of Johnny Altinger Murder By Dexter Killer Mark Twitchell

Johnny Altinger became the first and only casualty of the Dexter Killer Mark Twitchell’s serial killings.

Inspired by the Dexter series, filmmaker Twitchell had compiled a document “SKConfessions” which stood for “Serial Killer Confessions”.

He had planned and documented every bit of his brutality on Atlinger. Another document on Twitchell’s laptop was “A Profile of a Psychopath” which did not make its way into the evidence file for the jury during his trial.

Twitchell was convicted of first-degree murder for the death of Altinger on April 12, 2011. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years.
