As per reports, she was just 19 years old and had kept her pregnancy from her family and had an out-of-hospital delivery in which she gave birth to a daughter who was born alive and whose gestational age was determined to be between 37 and 40 weeks.
However, the defendant says that, she was young and pregnant and did not have enough information about pregnancy and labor. On the night of 17th June, she felt uneasy and went to the washroom, and saw her unborn baby in the toilet. They claim that she had a miscarriage.

She was born to a family that survives off of agriculture and lives in abject poverty without access to power or clean water. Lesly only completed the seventh grade while still caring for her four younger siblings and other domestic duties.
Her family claims that they called for an emergency to take her to hospital because she had a miscarriage and was losing blood. However, Lesly was charged and arrested for abortion in the hospital.

After 2 years of trial and investigations, El Salvador authorities have finally found Lesly Ramirez guilty and sentenced her guilty for homicide.
The authorities stated that a 21-year-old, Lesly Ramirez from western El Salvador, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for homicide. She has been sentenced to prison for killing her newly born baby girl on 17th June 2020.
The Citizen Group for the Decriminalization of Abortion in El Salvador were defending the lady. Their rebuttal was that she visited the washroom on the night of 17th June, and had a miscarriage.
However, according to the investigation, Lesly kept her pregnancy a secret from her family, and the baby was delivered alive. They even found the knife at the crime scene. As per the police, the baby had a cut on her neck which resulted in her death.
