Three Kansas City officers were shot during a standoff as the officials warned the city is dangerous for policing.
The unidentified officers were serving a search warrant on the 2300 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard at around 9.30pm when they were shot while breaching a door, Chief Stacey Graves told KMBC.
Graves confirmed the officers knocked and announced their presence before breaking down the door. They were instantly met with gunfire and fled to self-transport themselves to the hospital in stable condition.
Mayor Quinton Lucas condemned the shooting while emphasizing the dangers of being an officer in the crime-ridden city.
‘We’ve been reminded too much lately in Kansas City how dangerous police work can be,’ Lucas tweeted. ‘I am praying for a full recovery for our three officers injured this evening and that everyone on duty gets home to their families safely.’
The officers are expected to survive their injuries and it is unclear if they struck the suspect before going to the hospital.
A police standoff occurred following the shooting and no arrests were made as of 2am EST on Wednesday, according to the news outlet.
This is a developing story.
