Only at the age of nine did Daniel start karting as a member of the Tiger Kart Club and appeared in numerous karting events. In 2005, he entered the Western Australian Formula Ford Championship, finishing 8th by the season’s end.

Daniel grew up as a fan of NASCAR Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt, an American professional stock car driver and team owner who raced from 1975 to 2001 in the former NASCAR Winston Cup Series, notably driving the No.3 Chevrolet.
Ricciardo adopted the number 3 as his racing number in honor of him. Further, he supported the Australian Football League’s West Coast Eagles and was the club’s number 1 ticket holder in 2015 and 2016.
