However, he was in the beginning stages of heart failure, according to the reports of Vancouver Island. His long-time close friend, who was on vacation in Mexico, received a phone call mentioning his health update before his death. Reportedly, James took his last breath and died peacefully on Saturday evening, surrounded by his family and close friends. Twitter mourns his death, and tributes have poured in via Twitter ever since.

On Saturday, Comox Mayor, Russ Arnott, confirmed the death via Facebook post with the statement, Stocky’s intelligence, warmth, and energy never ceased to amaze us.”

Mayor Bob Wells of Courtenay, B.C. wrote, “Edwards was a heroic man of great character and conviction, and yet he was consistently humble, charming, and kind.”

James Stocky Edwards was just 19 years of age when he joined RCAF in 1940. He died at age 100 on May 14, 2022, Saturday.

 Let us recall his early days. James was in the senior commissioned rank as a wing commander in the British Royal Airforce. 

Upon his graduation from St. Thomas College, he volunteered initially in the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force). In 1942 WWII, he flew his first operational trip, where he shot down his first enemy aircraft, a Bf 109, A German fighter aircraft.

While working in aviation, James received tons of accolades and medals such as the Distinguished Flying Medal, Canadian Forces Decoration, Member of the Order of Canada, and many more.

James Stockey Edwards was a family man. He was survived by his wife, Toni, and children.

Born in 1921 to supportive parents, James attended his first flying operation when he was 20. There are no further details of his father and mother in the media. However, his mom and dad provided him with higher education and cultural background.
