The radio show aired on several stations and digital platforms across the country until March 29, 2018. He worked for a number of broadcasting companies, including WNBC, WFAN, and CBS Radio.

Don received four Marconi Awards (1990, 1992, 1197, and 1994). Time magazine named him one of the 25 Most Influential People in America on April 21, 1997. Similarly, he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 1989. In 2002, Talkers magazine named him one of the top 25 radio talk show hosts of all time.

 On 27 December 2019, he died due to lung disease complications.

Don Imus married twice in his life and had six children in total.

Around 1969, he married Harriet Showalter. Despite the fact that they had two children, Ashley and Elizabeth, they divorced in 1979. On December 17, 1994, he married Diedre Coleman. She was a painter, author, and radio host. She gave birth to their son, Frederick Wyatt, on July 3, 1998.

Imus died in 2019, leaving him estranged from his wife.

He was an American radio talk show host who graduated from Kent State University and served in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army.
