And in the end the home team ensured it was a birthday well spent for him, with Texas prevailing 33-30 in overtime to spark jubilant scenes postgame.
The acting superstar and Texas native was at the center of the Longhorns celebrations, even leading a rendition of his famous Wolf of Wall Street chest-thump while congratulating the winning side.
Prior to the game, McConaughey was even presented with a cake to mark his 54th birthday while appearing on FOX Sports’ Big Noon Kickoff pregame show.

He was also gifted a bottle of tequila on the broadcast before taking a sip in front of hundreds of fans behind him, as he joked: ‘It’s not too early to start sipping this is it?’
McConaughey, who was born and raised in Texas, is a long-time fan of the Longhorns and has frequently been spotted at games over the years.
The award-winning actor recently spoke out after their gut-wrenching defeat by Oklahoma in this year’s Red River Rivalry in Dallas.
‘Wow, that was a rollercoaster right there, man,’ he said after the game. ‘That was tough, man. Left in too much time on the clock at the end, didn’t we?
‘Hell of a game man, hats off to OU. Team came out on the front foot. Great emotional football they played, well played, Sooners. See you next year. Till then, mean times and all times. Hook ’em.’
McConaughey was left with a different emotion at the end of Saturday’s game against Kansas State, which keeps Texas atop the league standings with an eye on the Big 12 championship game and the program’s first league title since 2009.
Jonathon Brooks ran for 112 yards and a touchdown for Texas, which also got a 54-yard scoring run early from C.J. Baxter.
