A New York City influencer is facing both mockery and shows of support online after she posted a video of a date in the Hamptons, which critics said was staged.

Taylor Paige describes herself as ‘a trained dancer, turned executive assistant for a big shot investment firm, turned lifestyle and fashion influencer’.

On Sunday she posted a video describing how ‘a wealthy man took me on a date to the Hamptons’.

The clip showed her being driven out of Manhattan, and then getting on a motorboat to cross the water. She showed a restaurant, Rumba, in Hampton Bays, where she said she had lunch.

‘It’s a nice place to go if you go with someone who happens to have a boat,’ she said.

She then filmed herself on the beach before returning to the city – showing herself sitting on Dunkin Donuts plastic bags in the car, because she said her dress was still wet.

Critics noted she only ever filmed herself, with no one else seemingly there.

Some said she must have been poor company if all she did was film herself, while others said the whole ‘date’ was just arranged for her 4,400 social media followers.

‘This is borderline cringe,’ said another. ‘Please feature actual NY’ers instead of the transplant nobodies.’

Paige’s video begins with her explaining that ‘he had to get me an Uber’ to get her out of the city, and then picked her up and drove her to the marina.

She films the white boat, and then herself sitting on it, saying he told her to relax.

Paige films the Caribbean restaurant Rumba, on Shinnecock Bay in Hampton Bays, and films the cocktails but not the food: she said the ribs were delicious.

She then films herself piloting the boat, and sitting on a beach, before returning to Manhattan.

Some immediately found the video questionable.

‘Sounds like someone took a trip solo and tried to play it off like a date,’ said one.

‘Carefully edited the videos so we never see the wealthy man. Notice she forgot to record the food, but not the drinks. Easy to order two drinks to record. Not going to order to two plates of food to play it off like someone was there.

‘If this wealthy man wanted his identity hidden, she could have shot him from the neck down or record his hands or feet. Yeah, I seen people pull that trick before.’

Another said: ‘You had your phone out most of the date. Must’ve been thrilling for your company.’

Another added: ‘That was a Groupon deal.’

Paige herself has not responded to DailyMail.com’s request for comment, but laughed off the criticism online.

‘Lord, here we go with the comments!’ she wrote. ‘Some will be all hate some will be sweet but either way i will be ENTERTAINED.’

She added: ‘Everybody’s so creative! These comments have me weak.’

Some said the condemnation was racist.

‘Most ppl in the comments just mad b/c they don’t like to see black women pampered,’ said one.

‘It’s an amazing experience for her,’ said another.

‘If she told this man she’s a content creator allowing her to record her experience shouldn’t be a big deal. That’s how she get paid! So I don’t see the problem.

‘That was a bomb ass date too.’
