Following the discovery of a body, Police have stated that the death of a man who had been missing in Coleraine over the Christmas holiday is not being investigated as suspicious.

At around 7.40 pm on December 22, Barry Freeman was last seen in the Circular Road/Strand Road section of the Co. Derry town.

When last spotted, the 44-year-old donned a Santa bobble hat and a Christmas sweater. Police issued an appeal for information regarding his whereabouts and requested drivers in the Circular/Strand Road area with dashcam footage to contact them.

As of last night, according to a PSNI spokesperson, officers had stopped looking for Mr. Freeman “after the recovery of a body in the Coleraine area” yesterday.

“The death is not being viewed as suspicious at this time,” they continued.

Mr. Freeman worked at the Coleraine RightPrice home furnishings store. In a statement shared on social media, a Company representative paid respect to their colleague and expressed their “great regret” upon learning of his passing.

“Barry has been a valuable team member since 1999, and the entire crew will miss him. He was not just our coworker but also a close friend, “added the spokeswoman.

“We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Barry’s family and friends during this trying time on behalf of everyone at the right price. We appreciate the PSNI and CRS’s untiring efforts over the past week.”

A representative for Help Brings our Barry Home said they were “devastated” in a statement yesterday. Mr. Freeman’s friends and family had created a Facebook page to share information on the search for him.
