Ovidio Guzman Jail Or Prison: Where Is He Now?
Ovidio Guzmán-López, 32, allegedly the Leader of his Father’s former cartel, was taken into control in Culiacán and flown to Mexico City on Thursday, January 5.
It was a massive operation, during and after which ten soldiers and 19 suspects were killed.
A further 35 military personnel were hurt, and 21 gunmen were captured, Luis Cresencio Sandoval, the Defence Minister, said.
Mexican President Andrés López Obrador noted that Mexican forces acted responsibly to protect innocent victims. No civilian deaths have yet been reported.
The six-month surveillance operation to capture Ovidio had the backing of United States officials.
The U.S. had offered a reward of up to $5 million for information helping in his conviction or arrest. They were also looking out for three of his brothers believed to have kept their positions of command in the group.
The mission, which started at dawn in Culiacán, in Sinaloa state, sparked a wave of violence from armed cartel members.
Furious gang members set up roadblocks, put Fire on several vehicles, and attacked planes at an airport. Over 100 flights were canceled in attacks blamed on the Sinaloa cartel.
Ovidio, nicknamed “The Mouse,” was flown by helicopter to the capital before he was taken to a maximum security federal prison.
The accused criminal is said to lead a faction of his dad’s notorious Sinaloa cartel, an extensive drug-trafficking organization.
Mexican security forces had previously arrested Ovidio in 2019 but released him to prevent the threat of violence from his supporters.
The U.S. State Department says Ovidio and his brother Joaquín oversee around 11 methamphetamine labs in the state of Sinaloa, making an estimated 1,300- 2,200kg of the drug monthly.
They also indicated that Ovidio demanded the murders of informants, a drug trader, and a Mexican singer who declined to sing at his wedding.
El Chapo Son Arrested In Mexico
Ovidio Guzmán-López’s Father, Joaquín Guzmán, is currently serving a life sentence in the U.S. after he was convicted in 2019 of drug trafficking and money laundering.
His trial revealed some brutal details of how Mexico’s drug cartels operate. He is said to be one of the most powerful drug traffickers in the world.
The infamous Sinaloa drug lord also known as “El Chapo” formerly led the Sinaloa Cartel, an international crime syndicate.
His son’s arrest came just days before U.S. President Joe Biden’s scheduled two-day visit to Mexico. He will now arrive a day earlier than previously expected for undisclosed reasons.
There will be talks among North American leaders, including Biden, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Drug trafficking and stemming migration are expected to be hot topics of conversation among the leaders.
During the recent crackdown, there were blockades in different parts of Culiacán, and locals were urged to stay home.
Many shops were looted, and gunfire exchanges occurred between security forces and gang members. Likewise, schools across Sinaloa were closed on Friday. Back To Home
