Rupiah Banda Illness – It is true he was diagnosed to have colon cancer in 2020 but it’s not confirmed that was his cause of death. Below are details surrounding his sickness, health, wife, and family!

Rupiah Banda Illness - What Was His Sickness, Was It Colon Cancer? Former President Of Zambia Health Details

Rupiah Bwezani Banda, a Zambian politician who served as the country’s fourth president from 2008 to 2011, was born on February 19, 1937. Banda held major diplomatic appointments and was prominent in politics as a member of the United National Independence Party during Kenneth Kaunda’s presidency (UNIP).

Years later, upon President Levy Mwanawasa’s re-election, he was appointed vice-president by the latter in October 2006. After Mwanawasa suffered a stroke in June 2008, he assumed his presidential duties, and after Mwanawasa’s death in August 2008, he became acting president.

According to official findings, he barely won the presidential by-election in October 2008 as the candidate of the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD).

 

Rupiah Banda Illness – What Was His Sickness, Was It Colon Cancer?

Rupiah Banda, in 2020, was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. However, based on his recently passed away/death news it has not been confirmed that colon cancer caused his death. Details of how he died will be published as soon as his family members or authorities release a statement as to how he died.

Some people thought that he died as a result of the illness, but no official announcement has been made public yet, so it is difficult to make any claims at this time.

Furthermore, the news must be devastating to his family. Nothing is more heartbreaking than seeing a loved one pass away.

Rupiah Banda Family: Wife And Family Details To Know

Banda has had two marriages throughout his life. According to his Wikipedia page, his first wife’s name was Hope Mwansa Makulu. Unfortunately, Hope is no longer with us.

She was born on August 29, 1941, and died on October 11, 2000, in South Africa. Leopards Hill Cemetery was where she was laid to rest.

The politician was married for the second time, this time to Thandiwe Banda. She is a Zambian political science teacher who served as the First Lady of Zambia from June 2008 until September 2011. She was born in 1971/1972.

Thandiwe, who was in her 30s when she became First Lady of Zambia in 2008, was the country’s youngest leader.

Despite an almost forty-year age difference, Rupiah and his second wife, Thandiwe Banda, married in the 2000s. At the time of their wedding, he was in his 70s, and she was in her 30s.

According to an interview she conducted with BBC Africa, Thandiwe and Rupiah Banda are the parents of twins Temwani and Duniya, whose pregnancy came as a surprise to both of them.
