A female Met police officer accused of putting her hand up a woman’s skirt and complimenting her body after drinking Prosecco on a night out in London has today denied sexual assault.

PC Rachel Bright, 45, attached to the Southwest Command Unit, appeared at Kingston Crown Court wearing a black suit and white shirt to plead not guilty to one count of sexual assault. 

She is accused of assaulting a woman during a night out in Wandsworth on 5 December last year where she allegedly put her hand up her skirt and touched her private parts over her clothing.

PC Bright appeared at Kingston Crown Court and pleaded not guilty to one count of sexual assault. A trial date has been set for September next year

A trial date was set for 30 September 2024 at Kingston Crown Court and is scheduled to last between three and four days.

Judge Anne Brown warned PC Bright: ‘If you don’t attend that trial, you may be committing a further offence of which you may be punished.’

PC Bright, of Sutton, was released on bail on the condition she does not contact the complainant either directly or indirectly ahead of the trial.

She has been suspended since she was charged, and the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards is aware of the case.
