Maxwell was arrested in July of last year and charged with complicity in ex-boyfriend Epstein’s s3xual abuse of teenage girls, some as young as 14 years old.

What comes next for Maxwell, the youngest child of the late British media baron Robert Maxwell, Let’s take a look

Maxwell Ghislaine verdict of trial Update: What Was Maxwell Charged With Or Convicted Of?

Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty of five of the six charges brought against her during her trial, including s3*x trafficking with a minor. After about 40 hours of deliberation, the jury reached its decision. Jurors found Maxwell not guilty on one count: enticing a minor under the age of 17 to travel with the intent to engage in illegal s3xual activity.

When Is Maxwell Going To Be Sentenced?

Maxwell’s s3*x trafficking charge was the most serious she faced, carrying a maximum prison sentence of 40 years. Maxwell faces up to 65 years in prison if convicted. She will most likely spend the rest of her life in prison because she is 60 years old.

Judge Alison Nathan did not specify a date for Maxwell’s sentencing. She is also charged with two counts of perjury, which will be tried separately at a later date.

Sarah Krissoff, a former prosecutor with the Southern District of New York, told the BBC that Maxwell will face “a very significant prison sentence.”

“Given the involvement of minors, the judge has really great discretion to impose a significant sentence, and based on the evidence that was presented at trial, frankly, I expect the judge to impose a very severe sentence upon her.”

Will Maxwell file An appeal?

Maxwell’s attorney, Bobbi Sternheim, told reporters that the defense was disappointed with the verdict and plans to appeal. “We’ve already begun working on the appeal, and we’re confident that she’ll be vindicated,” Sternheim said outside the courthouse.

While the judge dealt the defense several blows, such as ruling that their witnesses could not testify anonymously, as some of Maxwell’s accusers did, legal experts predicted that Maxwell would struggle to overturn a guilty verdict.

To prevail, her attorneys would have to demonstrate that the judge violated federal evidence rules or abused her discretion, and that the error influenced the verdict.

The Maxwell family said in a statement late Wednesday that they would support the socialite’s efforts to appeal her conviction.

“We have complete faith in our sister’s innocence.” “We are extremely disappointed with the verdict,” the family said in a statement. “We have already started the appeal tonight, and we believe she will be vindicated in the end.”

Maxwell Ghislaine Verdict Of Trial Update: What Charges Does She Still Face?

The two perjury counts stem from allegations that during a deposition for a separate civil suit in 2016, Maxwell lied under oath about her role in Epstein’s abuse. Nathan granted Maxwell’s request to separate the two charges from the rest of the counts in April.

Each of the two perjury counts carries a maximum prison sentence of five years.

Where Will Maxwell Go Now?

Maxwell will be returned to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where she has been held in isolation since July 2020. Maxwell has claimed that she was served moldy food in jail and that the smell of raw sewage permeated her cell.

According to her lawyers, Maxwell has also been subjected to water deprivation, “hyper-surveillance” by overbearing guards, and other inhumane treatment in jail.
