Susie is a 1964-born English lexicographer, etymologist, and media figure. Since 1992, she has hosted “Dictionary Corner” on Channel 4’s game show Countdown.

She also appears on Jimmy Carr’s post-watershed parody of the show, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. Since 2016, she has served as honorary vice-president of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).

Viewers of Countdown were outraged when they discovered Rachel Riley and Susie Dent were missing from the show in 2021, and her absence is still being debated.

She also participated in five episodes of Richard Osman’s panel show House of Games in 2018. Dent and Gyles Brandreth co-hosted the podcast Something Rhymes With Purple in 2019.
