Burlsworth was an offensive lineman who played as a volunteer walk-on at the University of Arkansas. He was a member of the Arkansas Razorbacks football team from 1995 to 1998. Despite being a walk-on, he eventually became an All-American.

Brandon graduated from Harrison High School in Harrison, Arkansas, in 1994. He graduated with a BA in business administration in 1998 and an MBA the following year.

Brandon Burlsworth was killed in a car accident near Alpena, Arkansas, on April 28, 1999. He returned from a workout in Fayetteville and was on his way back to his hometown of Harrison.

Brandon’s vehicle collided with an oncoming 18-wheeler, causing him to re-enter his lane. His vehicle then collided with another tractor-trailer. The area around Carrollton where the accident occurred was not particularly steep or rugged.

He died only eleven days after being selected by the Indianapolis Colts. Burlsworth was selected by the team with the 63rd pick in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. In the 1999 season, he was expected to start for the Colts.

After his death, Jersey number 77 was permanently retired. He got elected to the 2002 Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. He was named the #1 Greatest Walk-On Plater of the Bowl Championship Series Era, reports Bleacher Report.

Brandon Burlsworth died as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. On May 2, 1999, his body was buried in Glass Cemetery in Omaha, Arkansas.

 

Brandon Burlsworth was a walk-on at Arkansas that went on to be drafted by the Colts before tragically dying in a car accident.

Burlsworth’s car drove left of the centerline for unknown reasons. He then hit the left from the fender of a tractor-trailer. He returned to his lane briefly, but the car again crossed the center line, and it hit a second tractor-trailer.

Brandon Burlsworth’s friends and family members established the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation to honor his Christian values and work ethic. They are on a mission to support the spiritual and physical needs of children who have limited opportunities. 

The Foundation is surviving from Brandon merchandise sales and donations. Their logo features his signature black-framed glasses. 

The David Hunt Greater is about Brandon’s story. It was released on August 26, 2016, and was based on the 2001 book, Through the Eyes of a Champion: The Brandon Burlsworth Story.
