The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a recall announcement for Sabra Hummus on March 29 2022. Sabra Dipping Company, LLC recalls approximately around 2,100 cases of 10 oz Classic Hummus.

It was potentially contaminated with Salmonella, a genus of rod-shaped Gram-negative bacteria from the Enterobacteriaceae family. It causes salmonellosis, one of the most commonly reported foodborne illnesses in the U.S.

Additionally, in many regions of the United States, salmonellosis is the major cause of intestinal illness. Overall, the disease is the second most common food poisoning illness reporter after Campylobacter.

Salmonella bacteria typically survive in animal and human intestines and are shed through feces. People are infected with the disease most frequently through contaminated water or food.

People are recently wondering why Sabra hummus isn’t available in the stores. A shortage of the Sabra hummus in 2022 has impacted multiple markets. As per the company, it is working on a solution.

Sabra consumers are not getting enough of its popular hummus. In California, Florida, and many other markets, shoppers have found very little or no Sabra hummus in stores.

The company explained the problem that it’s facing manufacturing delays, which have resulted in the shortage of hummus. The 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and Covid-19 resurgence in China and other places have disrupted the global supply chain.

The disrupted global supply chain has made it difficult for companies to obtain the materials they need to manufacture goods and products. Sabra perhaps might be the victim of supply chain disruption.

Nevertheless, exceedingly strong demand for hummus may also be another reason behind the shortage. The company is working on upgrading its facilities to ensure that customers can get their favorite hummus in stores.

Sabra’s CEO, Tomer Harpaz stated, ” America’s favorite and most loved hummus is made in America, right here in Chesterfield County, Virginia.”

On November 21, 2016, Sabra’s another recall for hummus over concerns about potential contamination of Listeria. The recalled hummus products were produced before November 8, 2016, at a place where Listeria was found.

However, the listeria bacteria was not discovered in any hummus samples, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The products were then distributed to retail outlets in the U.S. and Canada as well.

Back on April 8, 2015, the company recalled 30,000 cases of Sabra Classic Hummus over potential contamination with Listeria, a foodborne bacterial illness. 

Sabra Classic Hummus is a simple yet flavorful blend of chickpeas, garlic, and a creamy paste called tahini made from toasted ground seeds added with other ingredients.
