What Happened To Michelle Carter?
Michelle Carter was convicted for encouraging her boyfriend, Conrad Roy III for suicide on July 12, 2014. She was charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the suicide of her then-boyfriend who was 18 at the time.
Though Carter was in her home away from Roy, prosecutors claimed that her text messages and phone calls compelled Roy to take his own life.

The case was initially thought to be a suicide, but after more inquiry, it was shown to be different.
Her text confession to her friend Sam Boardman transfer the suicide to be reclassified as involuntary manslaughter. Carter admitted in a text message to Boardman that Conrad Roy III’s death was her responsibility.
“Sam, he just called me, and there was a huge noise like an engine and I heard groaning as if someone was in pain.” “I assume he simply killed himself,” she adds afterward.
“Sam, his death is entirely my fault. I could have stopped him when I was on the phone with him. He even got out of the car since it was running and he was afraid.”
“But I insisted on him coming back in “Carter texted Boardman in the days after Roy died.” Prosecutors also stated that the messages appear to show her inciting him to commit suicide one after the other: “You must do it, Conrad.”

At last, she was found guilty of the charges related to Roy’s death on June 16, 2017. She was released from Bristol County jail on January 23, 2020, because of good behavior after serving 12 months of her 15-month sentence.
