Basil was a trapper and a fishing guide killed in 1944 in France during the Second World War. Marie-Antoniette Marchand was of French ancestry.
Joe studied at a residential school in Spanish, Ontario, and was given the number 29 as his registration number, which his son Gino used during his playing career.
Gino’s mother, Giselle, passed away in September 2021 after battling a health issue for a long time. His father, Joe, has also already passed away.

He was nicknamed “the Algonquin Assassin” during his time with the Hawks for his heritage and skills as a fighter.
In his 12 professional years, Gino played for teams such as Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, and Montreal Canadiens.
Gino was an influential figure for the indigenous people of Canada. He was proud of his heritage and worked to promote the people of his origin.
Significantly, he was a legend in Vancouver, as Canucks fans considered him one of the greatest players.
