Margaret Czerwienski, a Harvard graduate, and her friends Lilia Kilburn and Amulya Mandava accuse John Comaroff of sexual harassment.
According to his university biography, Comaroff is currently on leave.
In a statement, his lawyers say the professor “categorically denies ever harassing or retaliating against any student.”
John denied inappropriately kissing and caressing Kilburn.
He also stated that the sexual violence discussion was sparked by his concerns about her plan to bring her same-sex partner to Cameroon for fieldwork.
“This was a critical talk for her safety,” Comaroff’s attorneys said, and “multiple faculty witnesses in the Title IX process acknowledged that his advice was acceptable.”
According to the plaintiffs, all three graduate students filed Title IX complaints with Harvard’s Office for Dispute Resolution.
Following a university investigation into his behavior, John Comaroff has been placed on administrative leave.
