Michelle Carter’s case, which began in 2015 and involved a minor accused of urging boyfriend Conrad Roy to commit suicide through text, captivated the nation. In the weeks preceding Roy’s suicide, the then-teenager sent hundreds of text messages to him, many of which pushed him to commit himself.

Carter was said to have a crush on Glee, a Fox drama starring Lea Michele, according to reports. When Lea’s on-screen and off-screen partner, Cory Monteith (who portrayed Finn Hudson on the show) died in 2013, art mimicked life for her.

The then-teenager reportedly grew preoccupied with how the public reacted to Lea’s death and how Glee handled it on the show. Some speculated that this was the reason for her to persuade Roy to take his own life.

Michelle Carter’s Mental Illness And Disorder

Michelle Carter was deeply affected by her own mental health. Along with her, her boyfriend also suffered mental health issues resulting in the teenagers committing the unfathomable crimes.

Her anxiety, sadness, and anorexia were extensively explored in court. Carter was thought to be seeking attention because she didn’t have many friends at school. As a result, she tried to get attention by posing as the girlfriend of a deceased person.

The documentary has raised questions regarding if the teenager can be held responsible for the death of an individual. While the series dwells deep into the layers of the two leads, it leaves the conclusion up to the audience.
