Did Alex Jackson Have Cancer?

On November 24, Alex Jackson, a 20-year-old third-year student at MU, lost away from cancer. Jackson played the mellophone and was a part of the Marching Mizzou band.

He was also a member of the Kappa Kappa Psi service fraternity and sang in the Horn Choir. “He touched the hearts and lives of so many, and he fought such a good fight,” the University of Missouri School of Music said on Facebook.

“His professors, bandmates, and students are all mourning with him right now.” Furthermore, his family, who assisted him until the end, is in our thoughts.” Jackson will graduate in 2020 from Creighton, Missouri’s Sherwood High School. He was in the band and scholar bowl there.

We are saddened to report that Alex Jackson, a junior music major, died on November 24 after a long battle with cancer. He touched so many people’s hearts and lives, and he fought so valiantly. Right now, his professors, ensemble members, and classmates are all in mourning. Alex Jackson’s final days

At a Kansas City Chiefs game, Jackson gave his final performance with Marching Mizzou in front of a large crowd at Arrowhead Stadium.

“This past season in Band 136 while getting chemo treatments, he still made practically every rehearsal and performance that his body would allow,” according to a Marching Mizzou Facebook post. One of the reasons he fought this illness so hard was his love for Marching Mizzou.

He only had one college option, and the only college band was Marching Mizzou. He wished to represent Marching Mizzou as a boisterous, animated, and upbeat individual who would inspire everyone to “find the good in the bad times and keep trying to be what we are, which is the ‘Best Band.'”

The School of Music announced through email that it will have a candlelight vigil for Jackson the following week. The vigil’s specifics are still to be announced.
