On July 2, 2019, head coach Steve Hansen selected Josh as one of four uncapped players in New Zealand’s All Blacks roster for the 2019 Rugby Championship.

Beauden Barrett, the All-Black vice-captain, chose Josh to stand in against Argentina, but he did not take the field as New Zealand won 20-16.

Rieko quickly established himself as the Blues’ outside center after signing with Auckland in 2015 and the Blues in 2016.

Rieko made his professional debut for Auckland at just 17, making him one of the youngest players in New Zealand to be selected at the Provincial level.

Rieko is the brother of Akira Ioane, a Mori All Black, Blue, Auckland, and New Zealand Sevens teammate.

Rieko’s parents played rugby. His mother, Sandra Wihongi, was a former lock for the Black Ferns on the international stage.

On the other hand, his father, Eddie Ioane, was a former Samoan international lock representing the nation at the 1991 Rugby World Cup.

Josh Ioane moved to Otago for college after finishing high school at King’s College. Ioane participated in the First XV of this prestigious institution from years 11 through 13.

On August 31, 2021, Josh joined the Chiefs in anticipation of the 2022 Super Rugby Pacific season.

Rieko Ioane, a member of the Auckland regional team, made his union debut in 2015 when he was 17 years old.

He played a season with the Mitre 10 Cup squad before being chosen for the Blues 2016 Super Rugby team.

Rieko made his senior international debut for New Zealand in November 2016 at 19, making him one of the All Blacks’ youngest players.

Ioane was controversially only used once against Canada during the 2019 Rugby World Cup pool stages, but he was chosen for the New Zealand team to play Wales in the bronze medal match.
