Despite sharing a last name, George Puscas is not related to Ferenc Puskas.

There is no evidence that he is related to one of “the greatest players of all time.” So far, nothing has established his relationship with Ferenc Puskas.

The outrage began on social media in April 2015, when a Twitter user posted a tweet. The user posted two photos, one of George and one of Ferenc, with the caption, “George Puscas, 18, is a footballer’s name. I believe there is no relation to Ferenc.”

Following that, it drew a lot of attention, as many football fans wanted to know if the young player was descended from a legendary football player. Though the Romanian forward addressed the issue a few times during his interviews, he never explicitly denied that they could be related.

Whenever a member of the press approaches him about his relationship with Ferenc, he states that he does not like to be associated with him and that their shared last name has nothing to do with their relationship. He once stated, “To be completely honest, I am Romanian and have nothing to do with his surname. I’ll do things my way. I’ll play Puscas in Romanian.”

Some may argue that they are not related because their surnames are not identical. Though they have the same pronunciation, their spelling is different. They are, in fact, partially correct. How can George’s last name have the letter “C” in the middle and Ferenc’s last name have the letter “K”?

George, despite being born in Romania, is of half Hungarian descent, and his surname Puscas is derived from Hungarian Puskas, which is why he resembles Ferenc Puskas.
