When Solo was pulled over and detained in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, police said her two children were in the car.
Solo was taken into police custody in a Walmart parking lot and taken to the Forsyth County prison for processing.
DWI, resisting arrest, and misdemeanor child abuse charges were also filed against the retired goalkeeper.
The former soccer player has had legal troubles in the past. After an incident at her sister’s house in 2014, Solo attempted to escape a misdemeanor domestic violence trial.
The case was eventually dropped, in part because the prosecution’s witnesses refused to testify against her.

Solo was charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and misdemeanor child abuse.
Solo’s attorney, Rich Nichols stated regarding her arrest ‘On the advice of counsel, Hope can’t speak about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her kids are her life.
‘She was released immediately and is now at home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest, and that she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these charges.’

Hope Solo’s mother’s name is Judy Lynn and her father’s name is Jeffrey Solo.

Her father, an Italian-American Vietnam War veteran who was in and out of her life as a kid and teenager, trained her how to play soccer when she was a young girl.
When Solo was seven years old, her father drove her and her brother Marcus to a baseball game in Yakima, Washington.
They drove nearly three hours west to Seattle, where they remained in a hotel for several days.
Solo stated how it appeared to be a holiday at first but quickly became clear that it was not. They were later discovered at a downtown bank, and Jeffrey was arrested for alleged kidnapping.
Solo kept close contact with her father after reconnecting with him during her student years at the University of Washington, despite the fact that her parents split when she was six and she lived with her mother.
