Mason received her second Best Actress Academy Award nomination in 1977 for her portrayal in Simon’s big hit film The Goodbye Girl.
Mason was cast as Jennie MacLaine in the 1979 film adaptation of Simon’s smash play Chapter Two, based on Mason’s relationship with Simon before their marriage.
Her third Oscar nomination came as a result of the picture’s success.

Mason was married to actor Gary Campbell from 1965 to 1970, when the couple split. Her second marriage lasted from 1973 until 1983, when she divorced writer Neil Simon.

In 1999, Mason featured in a London version of The Prisoner of Second Avenue, for which she got a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album in 2000.
The actress appeared in the American premiere of Hecuba at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater in 2006. The Night of the Iguana, Steel Magnolias, and Impressionism are her other Broadway credits.
