He formerly worked at Humayoon and Associates, Sree Kumaran Steels, and KAIRALI TMT, where he was a director before becoming an executive director.

Humayoon Kalliyath was detained by Jijo Francis, an intelligence officer of the DGGI Thiruvananthapuram Regional Unit, in accordance with Section 69 of the CGST Act of 2017.
Under Section 132 of the CGST Act, 2017, he could face charges for both cognizable and non-bailable offenses. He was detained and placed in judicial custody for 14 days in Thiruvananthapuram before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate.

In a statement, Mathew M Jolly, principal additional director general, Directorate General of GST Intelligence, Kochi zonal unit, said that Kairali Steels & Alloys is the primary benefactor of the scam.

After an investigation, the Directorate General of GST Intelligence discovered a massive evasion of Goods and Services Tax. A cartel of units in Kerala’s steel industry issued bills worth around Rs 400 crore to final beneficiaries.
