Hewett is a British wheelchair tennis player. He used to be world number one in both singles and doubles. Hewett has won 20 major titles, five in singles and fifteen in doubles, all with Gordon Reid.

Hewett won the 2017 NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters in Loughborough, United Kingdom. His career-high final global ranking in 2017 was No. 2. On January 29, 2018, the player ascended to the top of the world rankings.

Alfie Hewett was born with the congenital heart disorder Tetralogy of Fallot. When he was only 6 months old, he underwent surgery. He has Perthes disease, a rare hip condition that limits his ability to walk long distances.

The disorder Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease prevents blood flow from the pelvis to the hip joint. He has a significantly limited capacity to walk, and since he was six years old, he has been using a wheelchair. Hewett can walk, but he lacks traditional mobility and is unable to participate in able-bodied sports.

At the Cajun Classic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA, in March 2018, Hewett captured his first Super Series singles championship. On September 2, 2018, at the US Open USTA Wheelchair Championships in St. Louis, he won his second Super Series match. Hewett won the US Open singles championship and the doubles title with Gordon Reid later that month.

Alfie Hewett defeated Gustavo Fernandez to advance to his first-ever Wimbledon wheelchair men’s singles final after falling behind 6-2, 5-1. He was interviewed after his comeback.
