Nupur Sharma caused controversy in June 2022 when she brought up the Prophet Muhammad during a TV channel debate.
On May 26, 2022, a politician participated in a debate on the Gyanvapi Mosque controversy on the Times Now television network.
During the discussion, Nupur made controversial comments about the age of Muhammad’s wife, Aisha, at the time of their marriage and the consummation of their union.
Several Gulf countries, notably Oman, Qatar & Saudi Arabia, were outraged by her allegedly disrespectful comments and demanded an apology from India.
Later, a politician apologized for her remarks and stated that she hadn’t meant to offend anyone in a message shared on Twitter.
Similarly, a day later, Mohammed Zubair, the co-founder of the fact-checking website Alt News, published the video of her remarks on social media to harsh condemnation.
The following day, Times Now removed the program’s video from its YouTube channel.

Irfan Shaikh, joint secretary of the Mumbai chapter of the right-wing Muslim organization Raza Academy, filed a complaint with the Pydhonie Police Station in South Mumbai.
After that, more FIRs were filed in cities across the nation, including one in Hyderabad filed by legislator Asaduddin Owaisi.
Additionally, on June 3, a Muslim organization in Kanpur called for a bandh (shutdown) to protest the comments; at this time, violence broke out, injuring 40 persons.
